It is a rare and special occasion when two people travel in secret to a romantic location to elope. With Michael home on leave for just a few days and heading out for deployment to Jordan for months to come, he and Amy decided that they wanted to seal their relationship with marriage this month – not waiting until the next time they might be able to arrange a large gathering of friends and family to time perfectly with Michael’s leave-of-absences. Amy had always dreamed of a big wedding, and still plans to have one (with Michael) when the timing is right. In the meantime, they took a romantic getaway to Mt. Hood Bed and Breakfast in Parkdale, OR, and made their commitment to each other official.
The thing about elopements is that most of us have never been to one. So let me tell you a little bit about what I was a witness to: Pure, intimate, private connection between two people. Amy and Michael wholly present for each other with no other agenda at hand. Laughter, excitement, joy and complete and total love for each other. The aspects of the wedding that are normally on display for all of the guests: the first dance, the toasting with champagne, the cutting of the cake… these things were done between Amy and Michael alone while I shot from a distance – highlighted by squeals of laughter and lots of sweet hugs and kisses.
I’m not sure if I could have imagined a more romantic way to spend an evening, and the location of Mt. Hood B&B, with the sun setting upon Mt. Hood in the background, was second to none. Amy and Michael… there are no words. Relive and enjoy.
